I have an M and an H. On the odd occasion its been necesary to tow start them both. From my experience they always lock up in 4th or lower. So we always tow in 5th so thats probably nothing to do with your basic problem. But I recon your starter motor jams on the odd occasion and it could be absolutely nothing to do with the engine itself. I've got a pig of a Fordson which does just that. Mike Farmer
