There is a page in my 650 operator's manual regarding the tachometer drive unit. It appears that a serviceman must remove the drive unit and smear grease (calls for chassis lubricant) in and around the assembly. Seems like a synthetic grease available now-a-days might be preferable.
You probably have the "pie crust" unit which has an eccentric bore. Turn it till it binds up and back off one notch.
No mention was made of the speedo cable. Powdered graphite used to be the industry standard. You should be able to find something labeled "speedo cable lube" at any autoparts store.
