Hey Ray, My thoughts on a MTA l/p is that they are factory because if you wanted a mta lp from factory you could order one.Just like a Super M lp.The one I have I bought from the orgnial owner and he ordered it that way from IH. Also in 54 they turned the tank long ways and stayed that way from 54 to 58 on the 450s. All the same parts on that mta is also the same from the 52 Super M lps to the 58 450 lps. The gas tanks also are the same, from Lub, Tx. O one more thing is that if your S# has a C on the end of it ,LIKE MINE that also tells me that they made them. Today's Featured Article - Oil Bath Air Filters - by Chris Pratt. Some of us grew up thinking that an air filter was a paper thing that allowed air to pass while trapping dirt particles of a particles of a certain size. What a surprise to open up your first old tractor's air filter case and find a can that appears to be filled with the scrap metal swept from around a machine shop metal lathe. To top that off, you have a cup with oil in it ("why would you want to lubricate your carburetor?"). On closer examination (and some reading in a AC D-14 service manual), I found out that this is a pretty ingenious method of cleaning the air in the tractor's intake tract.
