I have a (about 1971) IH 574 Diesel. It has perplexed me since its purchase with its hydraulic warning light. When I run the IPTO for a long stretch like doing the shredding after 90 minutes or so I begin to get a flickering dash warning light for the hydraulic system. As soon as I disengage the IPTO the light ceases. The IH manuals say the light is a temp/press warning on hydro models and a press warning on gear drive models like mine. When this occurs I can take a break for an hour and go back to work only to have the cycle repeat again in a half hour or so. The transmission is warm to the touch but not so hot you cant lay your hand on it. I can't sense any decrease in the hydraulic system function. The manuals mention cleaning the trans oil cooler on the hydros but if theres one on the gear drives I cant find it. I have checked the fluid level and changed the filter for the hydraulic system. I am about to decide the pressure switch has become weak with heat and age and is giving a false warning. I do know that the other day while some of the other folks on here were discussing which tractor/weight/snowplow combination was best I went out and put the shredder on and did about 8 acres in 65 degree comfort and noticed that the light did not flicker once. So far both the IH mechanics and the independent tractor mechanics have been no help so I thought I'd ask all the unauthorized uncertified tractor experts on here. So wha'd'y'all think?
