400 has 3 or so more HP than the SM -- not sure how, but both are C264's. I may get challenged by someone who knows what they are talking about, but it should work. If the main jet is too rich, it can be turned in. Max power for both is 5 turns out. My guess is that you won't be able to tell the difference between a SM and a 400 carb, or other than appearance the M carb.
