I tried it the other way, H head on the 300 block.
Head fit fine.... till I tried rolling the engine over to set the valves and it would lock up 90 degrees either direction.
Them Firecraters wouldn't clear the combustion chambers of the H head. I had to do a clearance cut on the edge of the combustion chamber to make it work out.
I wouldn't think there would be clearance problems with the valves as deep as the combustion chamber is, but I learned the hard way that I should have done a mock up before final assembly. It cost me a head gasket set and a few extra hours to disassemble and reassemble the top end for not checking.
