While I had the C in the heated garage I put new points, condensor, plugs and dist cap on it. Also changed out the puny battery cables to 2/0 welding cable.
Halfway through changing the plugs my wife and son came out and asked if I'd come in and play a game of cards. I said sure and went in the house.
An hour later I came back out and had forgotten that I had changed only 1 plug and had the second one completely out of the engine. Gettin old I guess. I decided to start the engine. It sounded terrible! I stood there scratching my head wondering what the heck I had screwed up.
I walked around the tractor and saw the spark plug wire dangling. DUH!!! Finished the plug job and all was fine.
I also decided this was a good time to change the tranny oil. I crawled the rear end and started taking the drain plug out. What's this!?? WATER?!!
Yikes - a small amount of water drained out and then came the very mily oil. The oil was the color of light caramel. Not good. Gald I decided to change it.
I have no idea how water got in there. The tractor is usually shedded. But I did leave it out in a heavey rain once last summer. Could that have done it?
I hope nothing is damaged.
We have several inches of snow Saturday while I was inside working on the tractor. Saturday night I drove it out of the garage and put it into my machine shed.
Sunday morning it was about 16 degrees F. I went out and slid open the big shed door. Got about halfway open the one of the overhead rollers decided to snap off its hanger. Had a new project. Just happened to have a new roller set and after an hour of cussing I had the door working again.
Went in to start he tractor and it barely would turn over! I was expecting much better results for my efforts to say the least.
What now? lighter oil? If it gets any colder there's no way this thing is going to start.
