Carl: The battery box on a 100 comes in 3 separate pieces; right side, left side and cover. The side sections can be pressed in most local fabricating shops with a sheet metal bender. The bends are all 90 degrees. Most online sellers have the cover and the sides. I expect if you look through YT's selection they will have every thing you need. The cover will probably be more money than both sides together.
On your starter, you say you replaced cables and that didn't help, but how large were the cables? 6 volt systems need 01 or 00 gauge cables, as they carry twice the amps of 12 volt, and the ends should be soldered on. Most auto part store cables just aren't heavy enough. Best place to find cables for 6 volt is at heavy truck shops. they are using 00 or 01 gauge on the big diesels and most have the equipment to make them your desired length.
If your cables are already 00 or 01, then problem must be starter.
