I have a 312 in a 686 and a 310 in a 756. Both engines have their strong points and weak points. The 312 starts better, a little more power and is basically a noisey h@llcat always ready to go. The 310 is quieter but harder starting but sips fuel and is a wildcat in kittens clothing just waiting to be opened up. The 310 will last 3 times as long as a 312 between rebuilds but the 310's fuel system parts are high priced. I like my 756 and 686 with the edge to the 686/312 as its a smaller easier handling tractor for the power.
