I dunno what there is about that stuff; I learned the trick from the truckers. Guess they have been using it since back the 50s to clean up carbon deposits.
I used it a lot on GM diesels and it acts as truly a "Tune up in a can" with those old clunkers. Can't tell ya if it is actually cleaning the injector or the valves. All I know is that it works and I wouldn't be afraid to put it in any diesel. Mix is a quart to about 40 gallon or so.
Another trick for gas engines:
I use either a can of GM's Top Engine Cleaner or a 50-50 mixture of anti-freeze and water fed slowly thru the carb after the engine is hot. Kinda like the "water injection" that the RV crowd has been using for years.
I've saved so many engines from a overhaul that I've lost track of the count. It literally "steam cleans" that combustion chamber.
