Has it been on a dyno? Pretty good chance it is running close to 120 hp and at that it will smoke and skip a bit when started in the cold weather. Just about every 966 I have seen acts the same way as do the 2 1066s I have,both of which are "turned up",one with a DT466 and the other still a DT414. Your 966 will be worse yet without the turbo so don`t be too concerned if there isn`t anything else indicating a problem.
