The shift lever is at the bottom of the transmission.one end,the operating end attaches to the shift arm,the shift mechanism is directly under the bottom trans shaft, the other end attaches to a replacement pin that holds the short reverse shaft.Moving the shift arm moves the pins that slide the drive dog that is either in high,neutral or low.This is the way MandW works.I can't tell you about the Heisler or the Behlen as around here everyone used MW,
