They are expensive because folks are buying them. Lots of MD's/ SMD/400D and 450 D's being rebuilt. Can put 5 grand in one those engines. I priced a complete kit from my discount guy, and it was 2300 bucks for everything. Throw in close to 1000 for head work and another 1000 for injection pump and injector service, plus any other machine work and you get mighty close to that 5 grand figure.
