Bill, the pipe thread holes you mention are for draining any oil leaking past the seals for the T/A shaft (it shouldn't be much). During my restoration, I replaced the seals there and it still seeps a little. Since the compartment for the T/A has to stay relatively free of oil, I'm going to take the 1/4" and 1/2" pipe plugs I bought to plug these holes and drill a little hole (1/8 or 3/16") through them to let whatever oil leaks past the seals drain out. It will be easier to wipe a drip off the end of these pipe plugs than it will to clean the entire belly of the tractor when I take it to shows.
