Jeff: Nobody knows what is involved until they get into it. Sometimes you can pour a little atf into the cylinders and have the motor freed up in less than a week. Other times, you can work on them for months, pulling the head, beating out the pistons, burning the cylinders, pounding with oak blocks, etc. for what seems like forever. If you are very lucky, you will be motoring in short order. If you are unlucky, you can easily ruin the block and have to start over from scratch. Usually, the job falls somewhere in between.
