The clearance between the tips of the gears, and the housing determine the pumps ability to make pressure. The end plates, and the side housings are wear points. The housings are made from aluminum, or cast iron (less frequent). The housings do not contact the tips of the gear teeth unless the bushings are worn out in the housing. Replacing the bushings does not replace worn away housing. Used pumps are usually pretty expensive (50% of a Manufacturer produced rebuild) Thus the roll of dice. I would buy a pump I either knew was good, or was professionally rebuilt and guaranteed. Putting a unknown pump in a tractor that had a problem to begin with is like a heart transplant from the nursing home. NAH! JimN
