old timer: Not quite the same, but you reminded me of an incident in my home town. This guy had been introduced to cars in his late 50s never really did learn to drive well. He was always a source of conversation amoung all the many folks that had close encounters with him, while driving.
One day while waiting at a railway crossing, parked locomotive right in front of him. He was on a bit of a down grade, somehow let off the brake pedal and his old Dodge slamed into the side of the standing locomotive. Great billows of steam emerged from the locomitive. Well, old man Decker had done it, he put the locomotive out of commission. Ruptured something on the steam lines. The old man drove away in his Dodge. The locomotive sat there for 10 hours, waiting for CNR mechanics to come with necessary parts to get it up and running. This was a spur line about 80 miles out, from the hub of railway activity.
