Dave: Usually when one tangles with a train, they don't fare as well as old man Decker. I was at IH dealers one day, spotted a pile of broken casting and twisted sheet metal, looked like a Farmall 340 and a fertilizer spreader. I asked about it and was told the operator accidently pulled out onto crossing in front a train. The train was slowing down for a town where it had to stop. The engineer estimated he was still between 35 and 40 mph when he hit the 340. The tractor operator at the last min. leaped and grabbed a railing around the nose of train engine. He hung on until the train stopped, and at that point dropped to the ground. The story on the tractor operator, now two days later, he was still in hospital, very sore, and had quite a few broken bones mainly ribs. I never met or knew the guy but apparently he was out and going in a month.
