It really depends on what you are doing. I love seeing A++++ restorations at tractor shows. There was a fellow at RPRU 2 years ago that had a collection of flawlessly restored letter series farmalls. They were really something. They looked better than a brand new automobile. I don't suppose he ever used them for anything. Thats ok. A car guy would not restore an old GTO to perfection, then drive it to work every day. He'd have another car for that. I work with some car guys who can't understand why anyone would put as much money and time into a tractor restoration as I did on my MTA. I'm not into cars. They are cool, but not as much fun as old tractors, in my opinion. I farm, I grew up around farm machinery. I like it. Sure my MTA gets used, but its on light duty. Hay rake, auger and things like that. Its unlikely it will get dinged up doing those jobs. We have everyday tractors still in their work duds for the dirty work. They are not part of my hobby, they are tools used to get the job done. I don't lose much sleep if a tree branch whacks the fender when I'm working close to the woods. I would if it was my MTA, so I keep it away from that area. If you want to repaint your working tractor, don't put a showroom paint job on it. You'll only hate yourself when something happens to it. But if you want to repaint your "play" tractor, I commend you for doing a first rate job!

If you agreed with the subtitle, you are rather mistaken. Quite, actually. As a matter of fact, some of the technology experimented with over 40 years ago makes today's tractor technology seem absolutely stale by comparison. Experimentation, from the most complex assembly to the most simple and mundane component, is as an integral a part of any farm tractor's development
