If you look at this image in full qaulity, It appears that these axles were unpainted. I like the looks of painted. If you dont move your wheels alot, a protective coating will last along time. If you move your wheels alot it will wear quickly. This pic was beleived to be taken International Harvester"s experimental farm at Hinsdale, Illinois. I got it from the Wisconsin Historical Society. They have great old reference photos.
