If you used the old spacer over I doubt it"s the spacer causing you the problem. Was the pulley pressed down over the center tube or tightened down with the nut to draw it down. The nut stops at the correct height to keep the pulley from bottoming out to hard on the felt washer under the pulley. Or possibly the pulley was completley torn apart and the bottom pulley groove wasn"t pressed back on far enough. I have built a lot of those pumps and have never had to adjust a spacer.
