Lay under your tractor, directly under the motor. Look up. You will be looking up at the oil pan. There is a drain plug in the bottom of the oil pan, just like a car would have. Take that plug out to drain the oil from the engine (with the motor OFF of course). Just think about it, the oil needs to come out the lowest point of the engine. That would be the bottom of the oil pan. The plug that is below the oil filter canister is just for draining the canister before removing the canister to replace the oil filter, so oil doesn't run everywhere.
To add oil, look at the pipe that attaches to the top of the engine. That pipe goes into the top of the valve cover. You pour the oil into the top of the valve cover (via this pipe) and it works its way down to the bottom of the engine, the oil pan.
To change the oil, undo the bolt holding on the canister cover. Remove the canister and replace the oil filter. Then remove the oil pan drain plug, drain out the old oil. Replace the drain plug. Pull the oil filler cap out and pour in five quarts of oil. Oil should run out of the upper pet cock used to check the oil (pet cock in left side of the oil pan). If oil is running out the pet cock, close it. You're ready to go.
NOTE: The canister assembly has a rubber O-ring that seals the canister to the canister base. You might need to replace this O-ring. Take a pointed object, dig out the rubber ring. Replace with a new rubber ring. Ring usually comes with the new filter.
