Clearing mud (hopefully) If you are in first, going along on the driveway with nothing holding you back (not plowing snow)and push in the clutch to its limit (fully pressed down) does the tractor stop moving forward by coasting to a stop as expected, or does it tend to keep going and going? If it stops well, and you can find neutral, does it grind horribly if you put it into any gear? I suspect that it stops as you think it should, and does not try to keep going. I also suspect it does not grind horribly, but as one would expect as the trans slowed down. If you waited more it might not grind at all. If so the issue is with the shifter rail for 1st and rev gears including the detent balls, shift fork, and springs. To get there it is necessary to pull the top cover and see what is worn.
A weld up and retouch of the tip of the shifter, and replacing the shifter retaining pin (must come out to pull shifter from the cover any way) might fix it without removing the top cover, but not my best guess.
The search for box has archive data and pictures of H shifter tip rebuilding. That takes just an hour of so to try. If no go the trans rail is suspect. JimN
