I have sales brochures of both the 72-7488 series & the 73-75-7788 tractors. These tractors(73-75-7788s) were going to replace the 43-45-4786 big 4WDs, but were never built beyond prototypes due to, I would imagine, IHs well-known money problems of the early 1980s. The 7388 had the famous DTI-466 engines, 75-7788s had the "famous?" DV-800 V-8 IH engine. These tractors, as you stated, were a lot like the same-era Steigers, had a 2-speed drobox, like the later Steigers, had a 50 Series IH looking grille(but did not have the Forward Air Cooling like the 50 Series), If I could figure out my new scanner, I could scan a picture of the 7588 I have on the sales brochure. I can tell you a story about 1 of these 7788s. There was a big IH dealer in Huron, South Dakota named Olsen Implement that had 1 of the 7788s. After the Case-IH merger, he lost his IH dealership(Huron had a Case company store). Case did not buy this tractor from him & he had it on his lot for 5 years. Finally, 2 brothers from Harrold, SD bought this tractor and ran it for a few years(I know these brothers) and traded it to the Case dealer in Onida, SD. 1 of the brothers told me that 7 or 8 of these were built and all the rest were owned by somebody around Flint, Michigan & that is who bought this one they had. Can anybody confirm this?

Today's Featured Article - Memories of an IH Super A When I was ? up to 10, I worked on my Papaw's farm in Greeneville, TN every summer. As I grew older (7), it was the thrill of my day to ride or drive on the tractor. My Papaw had a 1954 IH Super A that he bought to replace a Cub. My Papaw raised "baccer" (tobacco) and corn with the Super A, but the fondest memory was of the sawmill. He owned a small sawmill for sawing "baccer" sticks. The Super A was the powerplant. When I was old enough (7 or 8), I would get up early and be dressed to ... [Read Article]
