I did two things on both my SC an my BN. While I had the motor off, I painted a (gasp!) JD yellow stripe over the line on the flywheel to make it easier to see up in there.
My pulley doesn't have a notch that I saw, but I did put a dot of black paint (NO yaller on the outside, thank you!) on the back of the pulley and the front of the timing cover so that they line up at TDC.
