That's definitely an S-series, which makes it 1956-57 vintage. More than likely, it's an S-140 Milkmaster, which was a special chassis with a dropped frame between the front and rear springs. The original engine would be a BD-series 6-cylinder, probably a BD-240...but it might be a BD-220, or it might be a BD-264 if you're really lucky. IH made the 140 Milkmaster model in the L and R series as well, but the 140--which was available in a straight frame as well-- was discontinued in the early 1960's.
There shouldbe a manufacturer's plate with the serial number, model number, engine size/horsepower, and GVW, somewhere on the body...I'd suggest checking the kick panel area, ahead of the doors, first.
