Well first off what size tires do you have ???? The best set on and old M and this comes from Exper. here is a set of 14.9x38's on a 15 inch rim . Keep the tire pressure UP at 15 lbs. as any lower they buckle in the center and you also lose drawbar hight . a shorter draw bar will help some . To go play with the big boys the next stop in in the engine dept. To play in the pure farm stock classes your going to have to get a few more cubes and a few more ponys . To start off with atleast taken the old M out to 281 add in some high alt. pistons a 450 cam and nothing less then a 400 head 450 gas head with the high alt. pistons would be great along with a 450 manifold doing some trick work on the dist. a little carb work bring the rpm's up to the max allowed . When i was still pullen my S/MTA i learned real fast that low tire pressure did not get it and ran my 16.9X38's at 18 psi and had more bit when the load came on and the tire did not smash down keeping my draw bar hight. But in my HOP the 16.9X38 was a little tomuch tire and a 14.9 would have been just wright. I also needed more ponys under the hood as the 60 that i was getting was 20 less then what i needed . But just where do you draw the line to go win a 7 dollar trophie . I have enough of them and with all of them put together and a buck and half it will maybe a cup of coffee. The two best winning pullen tractors that i ever put together were a old narrow ft 706 gassed with fast hitch and a Minnie MO U With the most money spent on the MM at a grand total of 3786 bucks including the tractor and tire And the olny new parts bought were the rings bearings and gskts. The rest of the pices and parts came from DUMPSTER DIVING Six used cummins 855 sleeves five used allison pistons farmall m connecting rods used JD valves and a rebuilt reground cam and oh forgot the new mil. surplus bendix carb. and a new msd 6 ing. system. That old ugly old pice of fence row junk would put no less then 75 feet on the best of them and was a fun ride as it would pull 5500 -7500 in 4th 95% of the time they were gate shots and the one time that the electric fuel pump quiet at the 265 foot mark and things stopped real fast. left me with egg on my face setting in the middle of the track dead .
