Mark, Did you get your "H" to charge? Does it have a magneto or distributor ignition? I would expect a magneto based on your other posts. If it has the magneto that would help explain why there is no small wire from the ammeter to battery. Someoone may have taken that wire loose and just plopped a 12 volt batttery in there for starting only, since as someone else posted, it will start many times on a 12 volt battery without need for re-charging.
