Hi Hunter, Are you using 30wt. oil in the air cleaner? Sometimes using to light of oil will cause this. Over filling the cup will do the same. As far as using a paper type element, I have used both. Will it hurt, no. I would think it all depends on what your using the tractor for depending on the conditions. Good Luck, Charles
