Dan, Several things can cause this, to get it primed locate a plug on the left side below the oil pressure sending unit, it faces the rear of tractor and takes a 5/8 wrench. Remove that plug then apply air pressure to the filler dipstick tube "no more or no longer than needed" at the same time crank starter until oil squirts out. Replace plug and start engine. If pump and unit is okay this should get it working, if the problem repeats itself you may have a bad pump or an air leak caused by a poor o-ring, then find a good mechanic to help you.
