Dan: the method you describe is about right!!! The distributor/mag and wires, steering wheel, axle shafts, lenses on lights (if any) and data plates on electrical devices (if any) were masked, or cardboard tubes were shoved over them. Then paint (no primer) was sprayed on with belta, hoses, and all exposed surfaces covered. I am somewhat suprised there wernb't more runs in the paint than I have found, but they did a fair job. The red color has always been difficult to keep looking good. Modern paint has pigments that are so superior to the reds of the mid century of discussion, that new paint looks too good, but that is because original paint began to fade to the traditional "rink" Pink and red combined color, we found after one year of exposure. original may involve compromising standards to the poor practices end of the stick!
