also, in the 50s, the overhaul kits at the dealer could be obtained to add more power. the different piston design required different timing advance curves. from what i"ve gleaned reading on these forums: an IH mag can"t advance any more than when the starting pawl retracts; IH distributors can advance more, and the adjustment of the advance is fairly simple. I"m sure the mags could have been made to advance more but that may have required extensive re-engineering? karl f
