As long as it isn't overfilled, it doesn't need a seal on the back side. The groove on the shaft is designed to draw oil back into the bearing, not push it forward. The shaft is stationary while the pulley moves! Be sure to get the impeller in the right way. The earlier Parts Catalog drawings have it backwards.
