I spent two nights on FFG-29, a guided missle frigate. It's no big secret as the "Tiger cruises" are designed as morale boosters for the sailors and also to let family member get a glimpse of what life is like on the ship.
After two nights, man was I ready to get off!!
I enjoyed every minute of it, but with my son being an enlisted man, I slept in their bunks. Three tall, with about 21/2 foot between rows. If all 6 tried to get out of their bunks and get dressed at the same time it would be a disaster.
I dont know if it is by design, or just luck of the draw, but seems like only two or three of us were getting up at the same time.
First night we were still dockside at Miami. Something happened to the sewage tanks. I think someone left a valve open and the fresh water tanks overflowed into the sewage. Anyway at exactly 6:00pm it came over the intercom. "heads are secured until further notice" Now I generally have to pee and take care of business each morning. There were a lot of guys in great pain for a couple of hours.
