Don't forgot to take out the woodruff key before you try to pass the shaft throught the center support. It won't fit through.
Do you really need to remove the steering shaft to pull the head on an H? I pulled heads on my M and 450 Diesel without touching the shaft. In fact in helped me with the diesel. That head is so heavy that the only way I could lift it was to lay my chest over the steering shaft, pull straight up, and set the head on the studs.
Of course when you pull the steering shaft, that would be a good time to check the condition of the bearing and pull the cover on the gearbox and check the tightness of the castellated nut.
