Tom: Usually a photo is worth a 1,000 words, however in this case not so. I see the cross member between the mower push rails behind the deck, however I can't tell if that cross member is attached to the deck with one bolt at the middle of the cross member.
The chain looks right, in fact is identical to my own. The gauge wheels look right.
It looks to me as though those big tires are the problem, and to compensate for those someone has removed the bolt attaching the cross member to the deck at the mid point. That being the case, I can't understant how you lift the mower without rolling the belt in the pulley system. Could you confirm if that cross member is attached to deck at the middle? That mower is supposed to pivot from the back end of those push rails. If someone has made those rigid, making the deck pivot where it attaches to push rails it will not work right. If that is the case, I'm surprised you can mow at all.
