Allan: It will leave the 10" grass a bit ragged the first pass, but you'll have nothing higher than 6" and most of it will be mower setting height. Like Jerry says it's got to be sharp.
If my mower is the least bit dull, quite often I'll get a wiff of hot belt. If I shut her down and belt and pullies are hot, I know those blades have lost their edge. It's not my belt loose either, it's tight as a fiddle string. In 6 years, I've yet to see my SA loose RPMs when mowing. Now, I grant you most of the time one could almost shave with the blades. I will not tolerate dull blades.
