I forget who it was that checked the float level/ gas level in the carb by taking the drain plug out on the bottom of the carb, & putting a hose barb in it's place. Then attach a piece of clear plastic hose & wire it up beside the carb leaving the top end open. This will let you check the float/ gas level. If it has enough gas in the carb, & has good fuel delivery, you can look at another area to see if that may be causing trouble. For instance--plugs/ wires, or points/ condenser. Could be a gummed up jet or foreign material got in the fuel delivery tube.
