If the block is OK they are not too bad to rebuild. The most critical area is the fit of the sleeves. These engines use dry sleeves that are held in place by friction. It is very important to have them installed to the correct height with the correct amount of installing force. Too little force required will result in a loose sleeve that will move and destroy itself. Too much installation pressure will distort the sleeve and cause tight spots. Add to this mix the fact that the block most likely has distorted some during use. Machine work on the block quickly adds to the cost of the overhaul.
