I have only done one tractor where i paid close attention to the original bolts. Otherwise, i try to save all the original parts as much as possible. My 8-16 was another story, as parts are so hard to find for them. I had to fabricate the water manifold and valve cover in order to get it done.
I also help a friend repair tractors, and he doesn't really mind different bolts and parts as much. So i see both sides of it. We did two basket case projects for him, and some of the original stuff was misplaced on them.
I think painstaking originality is an admirable goal, but we use our antiques and collect them in volume. So time is somewhat short for attention to detail on some of the more common models. We try to make the rarer ones as original as possible. It's all good to me.
