Some helpful hints: All old tractors have many coats of paint built up. I use an air powered needle scaler to knock down to bare metal. What a magnificent tool these things are. It is by far the fastest and cleanest way to remove lots of heavy paint in a heart-beat. Be carefull on the tin; that takes a bit more finesse. Practice with the scaler on the castings and wheels first. For tin work, keep it absolutely at 90 degrees and it won't score the surface. I then go back with a wire brush in a die grinder and all is ready to prime. I use Rust-Oleum #7769 to prime and #7466 for the finish. Priming seems to be the secret to a durable, long-lasting finish. Get your new decals from one of the suppliers in this magazine and smile ear-to-ear at that great ol' "C". The purist guys probably have better suggestions for a more professional finish, but this has worked very well on our workin' reds.
