Well with our 674 I put it down all the way. I doesn't matter if it is warm or not. The filter will have the oil it has once it has ran at all.. I would see if you can syphone some out to see if it is milky. I was checking our 674 one day while changing the Altinator and it was high.. Took a sample out and it was milky. There was a seal around the sleave that let go and dumped coolant into the oil and that is why it was high.. Plus if it is a Diesel use only approved coolant and oil for a diesel, that way it has all the additives in it..
