Compression is necessary. Pull the plugs open the throttle, ground the coil hot wire to the block, and put a good compression gauge in #1 spark plug hole. Crank it at least five compression strokes. put a teaspoon of oil in the cylinder, crank several revolutions to spread oil. Check compression again. It should be over 125! If real low or none, the valve cover needs top come off to check valve action and timing. Keep us in the loop. JimN
