I posted this on the main forum, but got little response. Old had some good suggestions. Hope this is not bad form double posting:
We have an IH 504 with the 2000 loader and it was running 2 years ago. 2 years ago I parked it under a tree because it stopped running after 10 minutes.
I removed the gas tank, carb, manifold. The gas tank has been cleaned up and lined. The manifold was blasted and painted. I bought a new Zenith carb from this site and put it all back together.
A few weeks ago I posted that the carb was leaking gas. It still does a little, but not as badly as before. We hit it with a rubber mallet and it seems to have slowed. We ran a nail up the carb and could feel the float is now not stuck.
Next we replaced the starter solonoid (sp?) and we are now getting almost 12 volts at the coil. We also replaced the ballast resistor. We pulled a spark plug (old plugs 7/8" socket) and made sure we were getting spark. The spark looked good. The plugs looked good.
We tried starting fluid and the thing will not even fire over.
Cranks and cranks, but never fires.
Please help! Dad and I can not figure this one out.
