This one intrigued me... I went and checked a few tractors here on the place at the moment:
351131R3, date code Feb "50, Straight C 355986R1, date code Apr "52, Super C 355986R2, date code Jan "57, 230
Only difference I could see between the Super C and the C was that on the Super C rear the holes for the sheet metal housing around the band brakes used on a Straight C were not drilled and tapped. A quick check showed that axle housings and top covers were also the same.
Parts books do indeed show one casting for all rear frames (C/SuperC/200/230/240), the 351131 with R levels of R4/R3/R5 respectively.
I know the hitch mounting holes are the same because I have installed a fast hitch from a Super C to a C before. My question was what differences were required by going from band to disc brakes? So, I checked the parts book for the bull pinion shaft and it"s bearing cage, but they were different. Last, I checked the shims used on the cages and they are the same! (I believe that would indicate the location and size of the mounting holes drilled for the cage on the frame are the same.)
So FWIW, my speculation is that when IH got to figuring the most cost effective way to stock spare parts in the 1960"s, they went back to the C casting which would work on a Super C and 200 with just a few unnecessary holes drilled for the C"s band brake housings, and later figured they could add the mounting boss under the front required for the 230/240 fast hitches (by either R4 or R5) and only require 1 replacement part to stock. I believe that mounting boss is the only difference between the 355986R1/R2 on the Super C vs the 230. I don"t have a clue why the rev levels are out of order though (especially since the Super C parts catalog is a later date than the C catalog so the later rev level should have been known)?
Slappy, bottom line is I think it will work but you will have to let us know ;) Worst case should be you would have to keep all the innards and the brakes from the C. Hope it goes well for you, Stan(VA).
