.050 is more than enough clearance to release the direct drive clutch. There is no adjustment to the low side. It is a one way clutch (ramp and roller assembly) that engages when the TA clutch is released and over rides when the the TA clutch is engaged. If it slips in low side it is ALWAYS the one way clutch that is the problem.
Go back and adjust the clutch linkages as they should be and don't worry about the way it looks inside.
When properly adjusted you should have about an inch of free travel on the clutch pedal at the platform. The TA handle should have a couple of inches free travel. The connector link should be adjusted so that as soon as either the TA lever or the clutch pedal is moved, the other control should start to move. When facing uphill the transmission should shift freely with the TA lever forward.
