I just pulled the pistons on my 240U to replace the rings and found a couple oil rings were broken. Inspection of the lower rod bearing shells showed that they all have copper colored areas on their surfaces. The top bearing shells surfaces are totally copper colored. There are wear lines along the surfaces as well, but no galling, deep scratches, or surface pitting. I also pulled a main bearing cap, and discovered the same copper colored surface. The bearing shells are factory originals: on the back is stamped "IH Std", with the part number.
Does this copper color indicate the bearings have worn thru the original surface, and are worn out? Never seen something like this before.
