Sure it will, if its converted to a 12 volt genny it will charge a 12 volt battery, thats the whole idea. Actually, while I'm NOT recommending this (its NOT engineering correct) I've used 6 volt gennys as is no conversion and just changed to a 12 volt Voltage Regulator and they worked okay (it can overcurrent the field windings ya know). A shop can convert it from 6 to 12 volts and will change out the Field windings and do it right, however. Or just buy a used or rebuilt already 12 volt genny.
Of course, you also need a 12 volt Voltage Regulator if you stay with a generator and use a 12 volt generator,,,,,,,,,,,, Change any lights to 12 volts,,,,,,,,,,,,EITHER use a new full true 12 volt coil (NO ballast required) or else if you use a 6 volt coil add an external voltage dropping (12 to 6) series ballast resistor after the ignition switch but before and ahead of the coil.
If you wanna change polarity the ammeter leads need swapped or it will read bass ackwards,,,,,a coil should match the battery polarity, i.e. at Pos ground its lil - terminal gets ignition switched voltage input while its other lil + wires to distributor but at neg ground thats reversed.
Dont forget to POLARIZE the genny BEFORE you start the tractor !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
If you go with an alternator instead most all require Negative ground.....

Today's Featured Article - The Cletrac General GG and the BF Avery A - A Bit of History - by Mike Ballash. This article is a summary of what I have gathered up from various sources on the Gletrac General GG and the B. F. Avery model A tractors. I am quite sure that most of it is accurate. The General GG was made by the Cleveland Tractor Company (Cletrac) of Cleveland, Ohio. Originally the company was called the Cleveland Motor Plow Company which began in 1912, then the Cleveland Tractor Company (1917) and finally Cletrac.
