the threads should be cleaned as best as possible with mud and loose material removed. Then use a bottoming tap to clean the threads. The use of Tap Magic fluid will really help. Make sure the tap aligns with the existing thread. If this does not produce an acceptable thread, use of helicoil or thread sert will do it. JimN http://www dot timesert.com/
