First use an air hose with a pipe style end to blow all the "stuff" out of the hole before attempting to re-thread the hole; you can use an undersized drill to clean out much of the "stuff". The hole is about 1 1/2" deep so do not force the tap. I have 1 tractor with the bolt hole broken through into the axle opening; memory prevents knowing if it was me or someone else that did the dirty deed. Clean hole, oil on tap, turn in 1 revolution & back out 1/2 turn, repeat, repeat. It is not easy to remove a broken tap if you over tighten it. Once the holes are clean, put in some corks or short cap screws to keep them clean.
